Lean-To Campout Results

Posted by admin on Nov 17 2013 - 4:38pm

9 Scouts and 3 Leaders headed up north to the fields of Lapeer in search of a place they could make their own (if only for the weekend).  The annual Lean-To campout is always a fun time and this time was no different.  Although in the past, this had been a Saturday/Sunday campout, the new location required a bit more setup, so this was a traditional Friday to Sunday campout.  Friday in tents, and Saturday in Lean-to's made during the day (in fact, we're going to keep it as a Friday to Sunday campout going forward).

Webelos Aquanaut Badge Saturday is a chance to complete 2nd and 1st Class requirements!

Posted by admin on Nov 8 2013 - 8:36pm

Coming up on Saturday, November 16th, from 5 - 7pm, Mrs Williams and Mr Morrison will be holding a special training session at Troy High School's pool.

The original intent of this was to help Webelos Scouts earn their Aquanaut Activity Badge.  We realized that this would also be a great time to help our Scouts complete several requirements for their 2nd Class and 1st Class badges as well.  2nd Class requirements 8a, b & c and 1st Class requirements 9a, b & c will be covered at this session, so if you still need these, this is an excellent opportunity to complete them over the Winter months.

Scoutmaster's Choice campout (the secret's out: It was a Survival campout)

Posted by admin on Nov 8 2013 - 8:36pm

10 Scouts and 5 Leaders headed to the Proud Lake Recreation Area in Commerce Township for an undisclosed style campout.  The Scouts were only told that it was an outdoor campout, and given a list of items to bring.  They didn't even have to worry about the menu!  After a normal Friday night and hearty breakfast Saturday morning, the Scouts headed out on a hike.

Suddenly, they were 'lost' and had to find there way back to a safe campsite, with little more than what they were carrying.  The first order of business was to find water, after that, shelter building. Most used tarps to create their overnight accommodations.

The Scouts were able to practice cooking over a wood fire (and still need practice on starting a fire without matches).  They enjoyed cooking their hot dogs over the fire and heating beans and corn in the can (and the happy spooning needed to share with one another).

This was a good starter with the theme of Wilderness Survival, and the Scouts are up for taking it to the next level in the future!

Pictures are now uploaded here.

Dollars for Do'ers & Matching Gifts

Posted by admin on Oct 20 2013 - 1:00am

Parents:  There are two ways that you can get the company you work for to contribute to Scouting:
1) If you make a donation and your company is on the "Matching Gifts" list, your company will match your donation - sometimes even double it!
2) If your company is on the "Dollars for Doers" list, then your company will donate an amount of money for the time you spend volunteering with your child!
