Yesterday, 13 scouts from our Troop joined dozens of Scouts from other Troops and Crews to learn about Geocaching and earn the Geocaching Merit Badge in a class taught at the Hawk Woods Nature Center in Auburn Hills.
We've just returned from the Klondike Derby. As usual, there were a few Thorns and LOTS of Roses.
Chief among the Roses would be all the awards that the Troop brought home: - First, Josh E won the award for being the best "Slingshot Marksmen" - now the schools and businesses will know where to look if they have any broken windows! - Next, the Angry Birds patrol won the "Taut Line Hitch" award for their performance at that station along the course. - Third, the Sith patrol took home the coveted "Firemen Patrol" award for excellence in quickly building a fire that could birn through a string 18" off the ground. - Finally, the Angry Birds patrol brought home to 1st place Overall Derby Champions award for their combined performance throughout the entire Derby!
Photos and Awards Certificates are here. There is a short video here.
Everyone received a patch from the event. If you haven't seen it yet, ask one of the boys!
Members of the Angry Birds patrol that participated in the Derby: Patrick L (Patrol Leader), Jacob C, Josh E, Scott L, Nick R and visiting Webelos Scout Gibson G
Members of the Sith patrol that participated in the Derby: Sam W (Patrol Leader), Will B, Richard E, Christopher G and Erik G
GREAT job guys!
Special thanks go to Pack 1095 from Clawson who offered us the use of their sleds for the event. No one expected our Boy Scouts to sneek up on them in a pair of "Blue & Gold" sleds. Size matters, and in this case, the slightly smaller sleds contributed to the Patrols' performance at the event.
