2013 Rendezvous

Posted by admin on Sep 29 2013 - 2:44am

12 Scouts and 7 Leaders headed south to meet up with a few thousand of their Brothers and Sisters in what was the second largest gathering of Scouts in the U.S. this year (behind the National Jamboree at The Summit.)

While the drive down was pretty normal, the wait to get to the site once we were in the park was ridiculously long, allowing the sun to set before we were finally able to start the search in the dark (and rain) for our postage stamp-sized site.  At least we were able to find the site without too much difficulty.  Once there, it was obvious that two Troops (and their trailers) would be a tight fit, so we started setting up tents as close together as possible.  Typically, we have a fairly large, open area to work in, so this required a bit of planning (and a bit of overflowing onto unused space in an adjoining lot).

2013 Skills, Thrills & Chills / Klondike Campout results

Posted by admin on Mar 2 2013 - 5:52pm

Let's take a short trip back in time:
2010 - The Troop website comes online - the first article concerned the Troop 1705 Klondike:  Troop 1701 Wins the Overall Klondike while each patrol wins two events
2011 - We host the "Snow What?" Klondike, and still managed a tie for 2nd place and a 3rd place in the Overall event
2012 - First year of the "Skills, Thrills and Chills" Klondike - results:  Three individual awards and 1st place in the Overall event

Flash forward to the present (
2013):  With temperatures hovering just above freezing, the Patrols merge to form a single, competition-ready patrol, the Road Runners, and win the Overall prize for the 3rd time in four years, besting 22 other patrols from across the Michigan Crossroads Council!  Scouts Joey A, Phillip A, Will B, Josh E, Christopher G, Gibson G, Kevin H and Jake N were led to victory by SPL Jacob C!

2013/2014 Troop Planning Meeting this Tuesday

Posted by admin on Jun 9 2013 - 4:31am

There was a problem with the voting last week, so we're going to take another shot at it this Tuesday.  The issue was that the vast majority of votes were cast for 'long distance' campouts, and we can only do a couple of those each year.  There were so many votes for those campouts that the 'short distance' campouts were all but left out of the voting.  Since the majority of our campouts are 'short distance', we need to revote in two separate categories:  'Long distance' (more than 2 hours away) and 'Short distance' (less than 2 hours away).  We'll probably let scouts pick their top 3 'long distance' campouts and their top 7 'short distance' campouts.

Boy Scouts analyze and discuss the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights as part of the Eagle-required Citizenship in the Nation merit badge.

Now one Scout's interpretation of the role of the Bill of Rights in modern society could result in some free cash for college — and for his troop.
